Holi is a festival of colors. But in between all these celebrations, we forget how we are harming our ears and hearing. Things to be careful while playing holi.

1. Avoid colors to enter your ear

The skin inside your ear is very sensitive. Any type of foreign body can harm the inner skin. you can wear some sort of ear gear like turban, bandanas etc. over your ears. You can also put some cotton earplugs (lubricated with some oil like almond oil or vaseline) inside your ears. It can protect ears from colors both wet and dry.

2. Don't use water balloons and avoid places where they are used.

Bursting of water balloons near your ears can cause cause traumatic injuries to your tympanic membrane (ear drum). It can cause you temporary or permanent hearing loss

3. Don't Play Loud Music

Try to be far from speakers of loud musics played in holi parties. Excessive noise can cause temporary or permanent damage to your hearing.

And for those who are using Hearing Aids/Cochlear Implant....

Don't restrict yourself from playing holi if you are using hearing aids or cochlear implants. Just follow these tips and you can still enjoy the festival.

1. Protect your hearing aids from water and color. You can use water proof covers to protect your cochlear implant processors. All cochlear implant companies are offering water proof cases or covers like aqua+ from cochlear or Aquacase from advanced bionics.

2. You can upgrade your hearing aids to a water proof hearing aid. Nowadays, many manufacturers have introduced water proof models, you can try them and use them.

3. Always remember to use Dehumidifier or Dry Box as soon as you are over with the celebrations. It is always advised to use electronic dehumidifiers as compared to silica gel ones. You can contact your audiologist for more information on that.
