From the Desk of Dr. Sayuj Krishnan, Consultant Neurosurgeon
Dear Colleagues and Patients,
I hope this message finds you well. As we continue to innovate and enhance patient care at Yashoda Hospital, I am excited to share insights into a groundbreaking approach known as Adaptive Hybrid Surgery (AHS).
What is Adaptive Hybrid Surgery?
Adaptive Hybrid Surgery is a meticulously planned approach to managing certain brain tumors, particularly vestibular schwannomas (VSs). These benign tumors, located at the cerebellopontine angle, can pose significant surgical challenges, especially regarding the preservation of critical functions like hearing and facial nerve integrity.
Traditionally, patients with VSs under 3 cm have been treated with stereotactic radiosurgery, while larger tumors often necessitate gross total resection. However, AHS represents a shift toward a more individualized treatment plan, tailored to the unique characteristics of each patient and tumor.
The Benefits of AHS
- Balanced Approach: AHS combines microsurgical techniques with radiation therapy, optimizing the balance between tumor resection and the preservation of surrounding critical structures.
- Improved Outcomes: Emerging research indicates that AHS can lead to better preservation of facial nerve function and hearing, which are paramount for patients’ quality of life.
- Versatile Framework: While our current focus is on vestibular schwannomas, the principles of AHS may soon be applicable to a broader range of tumors that present similar surgical challenges.
Looking Ahead
As we delve deeper into the capabilities of Adaptive Hybrid Surgery, our aim is to provide our patients with the best possible outcomes. This evolving technique represents a significant advancement in our approach to neurosurgery and reflects our commitment to pioneering the latest in medical science.
Thank you for your continued support as we strive to enhance patient care through innovation and expertise.
Warm regards,
