Cause
It happens when there is damage to retina because pf blood vessels involvement. Detecting it in early stage can prevent significant loss of vision. High sugar levels can cause in proliferation of blood vessels in retina. It is one of the leading cause of blindness globally. Duration of diabetes is directly related to development of Diabetic Retinopathy, High Blood Pressure, Overweight. In addition to diabetes increases the risk of developing D.R by three times.
Common Signs
*Dark strings floating in field of vision.
* Blurred or patchy vision.
* Sudden vision loss.
What to do
Newly diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes should get a Fundus Examination done at the time of diagnose and then yearly. People with Type 1 diabetes should get comprehensive dilated Eye checkup in 5 years of disease onset.
Treatment
Consists of Antiproliferative ( VGEF ) injection in eye and some times Laser is also used.
