Post-viral syndromes are in vogue. They have always been around but in view of the new pandemic being viral, it has come into the spotlight. Post viral syndrome is an amalgamation of symptoms, hence the term syndrome. The usual plethora is that of joint pain, muscle pains, sore throat, dry cough, runny nose, headaches, lethargy. When you are in the middle of a pandemic these symptoms can be even scarier taking into account that these are also symptoms that are classic of the flu itself. It is treatable. The course is tedious and long.

Most of these symptoms get better with the passage of time. Symptomatic treatment as prescribed by your physician should take care of it. There are some of these that persist for longer. The ones that consist of pains and fatigues. These can go on for months and years. They transform into a long-standing (chronic) problem, including chronic fatigue syndrome, and finally, everyone tells you to cut down the stress. Though initially the cause of these pains can be attributed to inflammation and there are medications for the same it may turn into a very nagging problem that does not have a given solution so one tends to live with it.

There are ways to deal with it. Getting into a routine, taking adequate breaks, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are important. Exercising can be of great help as well. Try to club your monotonous activities with something you enjoy. Listening to music, sketching, reading a book, or watching television. Any activity when done in moderation can be sustained for longer. Right now the mind and body both need to be handled as one unit. For anything to become chronic there has to be some factor. Realizing that factor and working on it can stop this from happening. Talk to someone if needed, give a helping hand when you can, try not to become a long-term victim of this terrible situation we all are in. Work towards stopping this here itself.
