ORAL  HYGIENE:

It is important for you to know that the build up of plaque on the teeth or around the braces can easily cause gum diseases, cavities on the fronts of your teeth. With brace it will take you a bit longer to brush your teeth properly.

BRUSHING TIPS:

1: Use a soft brush.

2: Make small circular brushing motion.

3: Brush along the gum line pointing bristles at an angle into the pocket between the tooth and the gum.

4: Brush above and below and on front of each bracket.

5: Finally,brush the biting surface of all your teeth.

After brushing rinse your teeth thoroughly with water.

HOW OFTEN I NEED TO BRUSH:

Brush at least three times a day. Ideally in the morning, afternoon and before going to bed.

You should spend at least 3-5 minutes each time you brush.

CONSEQUENCES OF POOR BRUSHING:

If you don't brush properly you will notice red swollen gums, and holes or white spots on fronts of teeth when the braces are taken off. All this can be avoided with good brushing from the start.

CLEAN TEETH FOR APPOINTMENTS:

It is difficult as well as unpleasant to work on dirty teeth. We will grade your brushing at each appointment.

DISCOMFORT:

It is expected that there will be little bit discomfort initially. The teeth will slowly begin to move and you feel some pressure on them. Usually the pressure will go away after few days.

LIP AND CHEEK IRRITATION:

If one of the braces is causing irritation to your lips and cheeks you should take a small piece of soft wax and place it on that brace.

EATING HABITS:

Biting into hard or sticky foods as well as hard objects can cause enough pressure to loosen a bracket or a band.

FOODS TO BE AVOIDED:

1: Chocolates, chewing gum, pani puri, chikki.

2: Corn cobs, ice cubes, candies.

3: Apple and guava should be sliced and eaten.

4: Non-veg to be eaten only in boneless form. Never bite on bone.
