Rains are always welcome! The weather is awesome, the water table is recharged, the plants look greener and our hearts are happier.

But, non-seasonal rains are a major cause of health disturbances. Stomach upset, cold, cough and fever are common. Those with a history of Arthritis / Joint pains, report increase in pain and swelling at this time. Here are few simple tips that you can follow to prevent these. 

1. Boiled and cooled water

 Drink only boiled and cooled water for a few days till the rains abate. 

2. Cumin water

 This helps prevent and treat stomach upsets.

Boil 1 cup of water with 1 teaspoon of cumin or jeera for 5 minutes. Filter and drink. Repeat these 3 to 4 times a day.

 3. Tulsi water 

Helps prevent and relieve cold, cough, fever.

Boil a few leaves of Tulsi in a cup of water for 5 minutes. Filter and sweeten with 1 teaspoon honey. Drink this on an empty stomach twice daily. 

4. Cinnamon tea 

A great remedy to treat aggravation of joint pains due to the rains.

Add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon powder (you can also use a 1-inch stick of whole cinnamon) and 1 teaspoon of tea powder to half a glass of water and half a glass of milk. Boil for 5 minutes filter and use twice or thrice a day. It is better to avoid the addition of Sugar for this preparation.

5. Avoid 

Getting drenched in the rain, exposure to cold wind and outside food till the rains abate. This will prevent the attacks of Cold, Cough, Fever and Stomach upsets
