Have you or your family member ever skipped a dental visit? Some fear for a painful experience, while some are uncomfortable and scared. But the large group of people avoid it due to the rising cost of dental treatments.  All the time, we hear that dentistry is expensive but no one has ever  addressed what is behind the high cost of delivering the high cost of dental treatments. The cost of dentistry has gone up like everything else in the past few years especially after the covid wave.

EQUIPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY

Technology such as fully automatic dental chair, digital X-rays, laser machine, dental instruments come at a higher cost investment. Most of the good dental materials which are used in your mouth are foreign brands or imported. we do have indian/ local ones as well but the imported ones are there in market in years after a lot of R&D. Thus most doctors prefer imported dental materials which last longer and are efficient. The crowns fabricated in the dental laboratory are quite expensive as well due to the bio compatible materials used and not just any form of metal.

OVERHEAD COSTS

The overhead costs will include rent or payments for the space of practice of the clinic. The cost also includes the payroll for all the staff, supplies, taxes, electricity, medical waste disposal, sterilization protocol and much more.It is also because of the experience and level of training of the nursing team and staff. A good dental office will compensate employees fairly, they will have a clean office, update tools and everything that top dental care holds. The cost of dental treatments for the patient goes up because of things like overhead costs.

COSTLY EDUCATION AND UPGRADING SKILLS

A B.D.S doctor has to undergo 5 years of vigorous training and a M.D.S doctor needs another 3 years  (total 8 years) of dental training. this training is to tackle any sort of medical emergency during dental surgeries or procedures. A dental surgeon has to upgrade and learn new skills every few years to match up with the advanced technologies and treatments.

NEGLECTING YOUR ORAL HEALTH

This is the most important reason. Most individuals do not take good care of their teeth. "A stitch in time saves 9" .A regular visit to your dentist will help you detect your dental problem at an early stage. Pain in tooth is considered as the last stage.

ASK YOUR RELATIVES LIVING ABROAD

Dental treatment in India is cheapest and the most advanced considered to most of the developed nations in the world. Medical tourism is on a boom. People travel to India stay for a holiday and return back to their country. This expense would still be half or lesser than the cost of what would have actually been the cost abroad.

Good brushing, flossing and regular visits can go a long way to making oral health a small budget item. So to sum it all Dentistry is not expensive but neglect definitely is.
