Whenever you sustain a cut, a laceration, or a wound, why does the affected area get swollen and hurt, turn red, and appear warmer than the surrounding un-harmed area? Are these series of reactions an indication of injury or an indication of repair and healing? Watch the video to know what is inflammation, what are the signs of inflammation and how does a wound heal.
Upon injury, or stimulation by a foreign substance, the body reacts with inflammation and initiates a healing process. Inflammation triggers a series of events which are characteristic to the healing process. These events have a characteristic presentation, which are medically called the cardinal signs of inflammation, which are rubor (redness), tumor (swelling), calor (heat), dolor (pain), and functio laesa (loss of function).
In the video Dr. Vinod Kumar Mishra, an eminent gastroenterologist with over 35 years of experience, explains the significance of each of the cardinal signs of inflammation and their role in the process of wound healing. Dr. Mishra explains in detail about:
- Inflammation
- Signs and symptoms of inflammation
- Cause of inflammation in wounds
- Role of inflammatory response in wound healing
- Wound healing (in other words repair and regeneration of wound)
