Stretch marks are caused because of rapid stretching of skin that results in scars and discolouration of the skin. There are many reasons which can lead to stretch marks such as rapid weight reduction, quick weight gain, excessive exercise, steroids, pregnancy, hormonal changes, puberty etc. Millions of women have stretch marks, but this fact does little to lessen the embarrassment that most women feel at the appearance of these unattractive striations on their skin. Stretch marks, also known as striae, are a form of scarring on the skin with an off-colour hue. Over time they may reduce, but will not disappear completely. Tearing of the dermis results in stretch marks.

There is no proof that creams utilized during pregnancy prevent stretch marks. Once they have formed there is clearly no useful treatment, through various methods have been tried. Striae, or "stretch marks", start as reddish or purple lesions, which commonly appears on the body parts where the huge amounts of fat are reserved but it can take place on any of the body parts. The most common places are the abdomen (especially near the navel), breasts, upper arms, underarms, back, thighs (both inner and outer), hips, and buttocks. After some time, they tend to atrophy and lose pigmentation. The affected areas appear empty and are gentle to touch.

Stretch marks occur in the dermis, the resilient middle tissue layer that aids the skin retain its shape. No stretch marks will form as long as there is support within the dermis. They can (but do not always) cause a burning and tingling sensation, as well as emotional distress. They pose no health risk because of them, and your body can still function normally and repair itself, however, they are often considered a cosmetic nuisance. Till now there were few options for stretch mark treatments.

Some of the treatment include medical management and procedure like collagen induction therapy and lasers:

1. Dermaroller

A derma roller is a handheld gadget with microneedles. We apply a topical numbing gel to the treatment area for optimal comfort before starting the procedure. During the procedure, the needles of derma roller, create pores in the dermis, which prompt the release of growth factors and cytokines. The growth factors and cytokines, in turn, create an injury healing cascade by stimulating collagen, elastin, and neovascularization. Needling sessions are typically done at an interval of 3-5 weeks. During the procedure, we recommend the application of serums to the treated area depending on your skin concerns, vitamin E and rosehip oils for stretch marks.

2. Erbium Fibre Laser

For better results with stretch marks, we suggest Fractional erbium fibre laser. This laser is effective and minimal time consuming. It is highly prescribed as a reliable treatment for stretch marks because of less hazard involved and no downtime. The microbeams penetrate deep causing regrowth of cells and collagen remodelling can improve the unsightly colour and skin texture related with stretch marks, leaving clients with smoother, better-looking skin.
