Brushing teeth is not just for getting it whitened or having fresh breath but it's for overall health also. Here are some steps to be followed for efficient brushing of teeth:

  1. Choosing correct toothbrush: You should choose a toothbrush with soft nylon bristles of appropriate size that fits comfortably in your hand and also in your mouth. It should be able to remove plaque and debris from the mouth and without irritating gums.
  2. Replace your toothbrush regularly: Ideally, toothbrushes should be replaced after every 3 months. It tends to wear out after some time and can also cause gum injury.
  3. Use a dental floss:  It removes built-up plaque, bacteria and food particles that get trapped between the teeth. It should be used at least once a day.
  4. Use a fluoridated toothpaste: It removes plaque and also strengthens tooth enamel. You should use only a small amount of toothpaste.
  5. Brushing technique: Set your bristles at the gum line at 45-degree angle. Brush gently with a short, vertical and circular motion. Brush your molars and the inner surface of teeth. You should spend at least 10 to 15 seconds at each spot.
  6. Clean your tongue: After brushing your teeth gently clean your tongue with the bristles of your toothbrush. It gets rid of bacteria and bad oral breath.
  7. Rinse your mouth: If you are at high risk of caries, it may be beneficial not to rinse or just rinse with a small amount of water or with salt water.
  8. Rinse your toothbrush: Clean and dry your toothbrush properly. Don't keep your toothbrush in bathrooms.
  9. Make a habit of brushing at least twice a day: Dentists generally advise to brush teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once before sleeping at night. It is, even better if you can brush third time in the middle.
  10. A regular visit to the dentist: You must not forget to visit your dentist for a regular dental check-up.
