Women and men equally want to enhance their butt in one way or the other surgically or non-surgically. And one procedure that is becoming popular is gluteal Augmentation or Butt Augmentation. Common indication for this procedure is Ptosis (owning to weight loss), asymmetry of butt. There is dramatic rise in cases of gluteal augmentation with fat transfer. There is various technique to augment butt using fat, silicone implants and injectables(fillers) placed in subcutaneous plane, intramuscular plane or both. As demands increase so is the complications.
Butt augmentation by fat transfer, in these, patients own fat is harvested from the various part of the body i.e. abdomen, thighs is harvested as required. Thereafter fat harvested is centrifuged and transferred into butt through the cannulas to give shape and contour as patient desire. Common complication of fat grafting is seroma, under correction, infection, asymmetry, liponecrosis, fat embolism and over all complication rate is about 10%.
Other method of Gluteal augmentation is silicone implants. silicone implants are placed either submuscular, intramuscular, subfacial or subcutaneous and each plane have their own pros and cons. Common complication after the procedure are wound dehiscence, seroma, capsular contracture and implant palpability. Over all complication rate with this procedure is around 20%.
I don’t recommend fillers for butt augmentation.
