In today’s world, we need not depend only on our genes to be beautiful; thanks to the latest cosmetic procedures. One of them is mesotherapy. It is a non-surgical, cosmetic medicine treatment that was developed in France in 1952.

How it works:

This technique uses injections of vitamins, enzymes, minerals, plant extracts and hormones. It works on the mesoderm that is the layer of fat and tissue underneath the skin for dealing with problems such as cellulite, excess weight, face or neck rejuvenation and body contouring. For Hair:Mesotherapy treats hair loss and helps hair growth as it deals with the scalp and hair follicles.Male and female pattern baldness, patchy hair loss and hair loss from stress can be treated through mesotherapy. In “Non-needle mesotherapy”, which uses the principle of electroporation, pores of the skin are opened using a heating system and injections are given. Then the pores are closed after cooling. In another process, the vitamins, minerals and minoxidil are injected into the mesoderm of the thinning area of the scalp at every 1 cm distance. The hair follicles then absorb the maximum nutrients, which trigger the growth of hair.It also ensures that the scalp has a good amount of amino acids and boosts keratin production.

For Skin:

Mesotherapy helps in achieving younger, brighter and smoother skin. The injections of Hyaluronic acid into the epidermis and mesoderm make the skin look hydrated, glowing, radiant and firmer by boosting cell activity and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. It hence nourishes and rejuvenates the skin. This improves the skin’s complexion, prevents wrinkles and revives dull, tired looking skin and improves tone and elasticity of the sagging skin in the neck area and on the hands. During the treatment, one should avoid alcohol and follow a low fat diet, while drinking lots of water to help eliminate toxins. After the treatment, the skin should not be exposed to the sun.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Mesotherapy:

The reason for the popularity of mesotherapy is its many advantages. This therapy is safe because it minimizes side-effects such as allergies or drug interaction. Anesthesia that can create complications is not used in this therapy. It ensures quick recovery for all hair and skin problems. Lastly, it is the least painful of all the therapies out there, although it is a little bit uncomfortable due to pinches on the scalp. There are disadvantages as well. This therapy may create some complications to patients who are pregnant or breast-feeding.

One should go to an experienced and skilled doctor for this treatment as if not properly performed it can cause severe skin damage. The treatment is given once a week at first, and after some time it is given once a month. Generally, it is a four-six month course of treatment. Results can only be observed after the treatment is complete. Hence, it should not be stopped in the middle otherwise the desired results will not be achieved.
