Veneers and lumineers in dentistry are materials placed on teeth to fix the broken surfaces of the teeth. They are mainly used for the esthetic property which they provide to the teeth. This makes the veneers one of the most demanding dental procedures among patients who want quick fixes for their broken teeth. Veneers are one of the most important and basic dental procedures for a cosmetic dentist. They are mainly of two types, i.e. dental porcelain and composite.

Veneers are required in patients who have small spaces in between two teeth. Such spaces which cannot be filled by orthodontics are done with veneers. Many individuals have chipped off or broken teeth as a result of accidents or hurt by some object. This can be seen very commonly in the anterior i.e. front teeth. Individuals who have spaces of triangular shape in between the teeth due to gingival recession can also be benefitted by the veneers. Veneers not only improve the appearance of the particular teeth but also improve the functioning of the particular teeth. Food lodgment is prevented with the help of veneers. Many a times, patients complain of yellowish teeth that don’t get cleaned easily. Here,The procedure of veneers is quite simple than other dental procedures like dental implants or oral surgeries. It can be completed within a few appointments. The dentist can perform the procedure directly in the mouth.

The composite type of veneers can be built by the dentist directly in the mouth. The other way is that the dental technician prepares the veneer. Then, the veneer is placed on the particular tooth by the dentist. The dentist checks the placement of the veneer, its’ appearance and functioning to ensure that the veneer doesn’t trouble the patient. Once the dentist is confirmed that the veneer is perfectly fine in the patient’s mouth then the procedure is finally completed.Lumineers and veneers are very commonly used together in dentistry. Both of these dental procedures have similarities as well as differences. Lumineers are basically a type of veneers. They require the least removal of teeth and absolutely less or no tooth preparation for the procedure. This gives them a priority above the major types of veneers.

Lumineers are thinner than other types of veneers and resemble the thickness of a contact lens. This shows that they are actually easy to apply and a quick procedure too. But they cannot replace the results provided by the orthodontic treatments. So care must be taken while choosing the cosmetic dental procedures that any major space or occlusal default should be fixed only with the orthodontic procedure. Patients who have more gaps and are not willing to opt for metallic braces are recommended for the traditional veneers. This provides the required flexibility and satisfactory results to the patient as well the dentist. So one must discuss with the dentist prior to choosing a treatment and check for the long term results when veneers or lumineers are considered in the cosmetic dental procedures.
