Dengue cases rise in India . Dengue virus is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is widespread throughout the world's tropical and subtropical regions, especially in urban and semi-urban areas. The outbreaks are most common during the monsoon season when mosquito populations tend to increase. The risk of dengue transmission can be higher in some areas, e.g., in waterlogged areas after

For a number of reasons, dengue outbreaks are usually linked to the monsoon season.

First of all, warm and muddy settings are ideal for the breeding of Aedes mosquito, which spreads the virus. These mosquitoes find ideal breeding grounds in stagnant water in open containers, abandoned tyres, and other objects or places during the monsoon season. The populations of mosquitoes grow as a result of these breeding grounds.

Symptoms

Symptoms of dengue fever might range from mild to severe. High temperature, excruciating headache, joint and muscular pain, rash, nausea, vomiting, and minor bleeding from the gums or nose are some of the typical signs and symptoms. A more severe type of dengue fever called dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) or dengue shock syndrome (DSS), which is sometimes associated with bleeding, and organ damage might also develop.”

Diagnosis

Doctors may advise blood tests like the NS1 antigen test, PCR test, or antibody testing like IgM and IgG to diagnose dengue. Certain other tests like Complete Blood Count (CBC), which also includes platelet count, are also done.

Treatment & recovery

Dengue fever has no specific antiviral treatment. The major goals of medical treatment are to manage symptoms, keep patients hydrated, and keep a watchful eye on their health. Doctors frequently advise resting and drinking enough fluids. Medicines are prescribed to alienate the symptoms the patient is suffering from.

Hospitalization may be necessary in extreme circumstances for close monitoring of vital signs and fluid replacement therapy. Blood transfusions or other treatments can be necessary for patients with DHF or DSS to stabilize their condition. Most dengue patients recover in a week or two with prompt medical attention and sensible management.
