The avocado fruit is rich in nutrients, high in proteins, anti-oxidants and dietary fiber and is perhaps the most poorly understood or rather misunderstood fruit of all times. This is mainly due to its high fat and calorie content and so most dieticians and nutritionists either advise against it or to use it 'moderately'.

It contains high amounts of vitamins A, B, C, E, and other nutrients like folacin, niacin, iron, magnesium, folate, pantothenic acid and contains 60% more potassium than bananas.

Avocado Oil

  • Avocado oil has been produced and used by South Americans for centuries and used as a skin ointment.
  • The mild oil pressed from the luscious avocado is known to be soothing to the skin.
  • Avocado oil has been used extensively for its ability to heal and nourish the skin.
  • This usage is based on the high hydrocarbon and high oleic acid content of the pulp and oil.
  • This monounsaturated fatty acid maintains moisture in the epidermal layer of your skin, helping to make it soft and hydrated.

Skin dehydration

It is common in skin disease and conditions of excessive skin lipid removal. Diseases where skin dehydration is common include psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, xerotic eczema, hand dermatitis, etc. All of these conditions are characterized by a defective skin barrier. The skin barrier regulates skin hydration and maintains the water content. People who suffer from skin irritation and dryness regularly should try eating more avocado for skin health and moisturization.

Avocado contains essential fatty acids and other nutrients that help prevent premature wrinkling and help to work on the barrier forage function of the skin. Many people are surprised too and out that avocado contains good amounts of vitamin C for healthy skin. As well as having strong antioxidant properties, vitamin C is needed for the creation of elastin and collagen, which bind your skin cells together and maintain their firmness and structure.

Skin is the largest organ that is under constant assault by environmental oxidative stress including ultraviolet radiation (UVR), air pollutants, and chemical oxidants. Thus, skin ageing is an inevitable normal process. However, premature skin ageing may occur due to factors such as external oxidative stress as well as smoking, imbalanced nutrition, excessive dieting, and mental stress. Avocados are a great source of anti-oxidant carotenoids, that are powerful free radical quenching agents that help to combat premature skin-ageing.

To soften and nourish and de-tan your skin this summer, mash half of an avocado mix it with two to three tablespoons of honey and 1tablespoon of brown sugar, you can squeeze a little bit of lemon juice if you have oily skin and apply it to your face. Leave it on until it dries and then rinse it off with warm water.
