Have you watched the recent live-action Mulan? It got mixed reactions but I’m not writing a movie review today. ;)
Don’t want to spoil it for anybody so I’m only going to share a quote from the movie along the lines of “having fear yet being courageous at the same time”. That stuck with me, to say the least.
There’s this myth among some people that fear and courage cannot work together. It’s always just either you’re scared or you’re brave when in reality you can be both at the same time. It’s also one of the reasons why change doesn’t stick.
We want to change something in our life, start fresh, let go. But we fear loss and we think we’re not brave enough for the consequences. This change doesn’t even have to be dramatic, too. It could be as mundane as wanting to wake up early by establishing a good sleeping habit.
If you want to thrive in life by changing first, act on it. It’s true that there is no hurry. But don’t put it off until it’s too late. There’s a deadline for accountability. Even if you don’t know how to start it yet, believe in your ability to figure things out.
Be fearful and brave. What do you want to achieve today?
