Discover the pathway to a healthy spine

keep me in line i will feel fine (i am your spine)

The spine is made of 33 individual bones stacked one on top of the other. This spinal column provides the main support for your body, allowing you to stand upright, bend, and twist, while protecting the spinal cord from injury.

1) Start with a healthy spine.

2) Practise good posture.

   For better posture:

  • Encourage children to stand like a soldier, or a ballerina, with head up, shoulders back and   tummy in
  • ‘One size fits all’ classroom furniture is not always ideal, but children can sit well by bringing their chair close to the table, sitting back in the seat with their back upright. They should avoid hunching over textbooks and be given the opportunity to move about during long lessons
  • Sturdy rucksacks are safer than ‘fashion’ bags. They should be packed and worn correctly. Heavier objects should be packed first and the bag should be worn properly using both shoulder straps and the waist belt
    • a lightweight pack that doesn't add a lot of weight to your child's load
    • two wide, padded shoulder straps; straps that are too narrow can dig into shoulders
    • a padded back, which not only provides increased comfort, but also protects kids from being poked by sharp edges on objects (pencils, rulers, notebooks, etc.) inside the pack
    • a waist belt, which helps to distribute the weight more evenly across the body
    • multiple compartments, which can help distribute the weight more evenly

3) Eat 3 meals a day from the ʻgood foodʼ list.

4) Play safe - avoid accidents which may hurt the spine.

5) Exercise every day - get involved in sports.Exercise is one of the most significant ways we can increase our longevity, improve our health, and decrease our pain and suffering. Proper exercise can improve flexibility, increase strength, and even reduce back pain.

6) Think happy thoughts and keep a smile on your face that everyone can see.

7) Have a good nightʼs sleep - at least 8 hours.
