Painful tooth, in most of the cases is a consequence  of a number of factors to which your healthy tooth is subjected to over a considerable period of time in the mouth. Improper and inadequate tooth brushing ,poor eating habits, overindulgence in sugary sticky foods and avoiding regular dental  checkups leads to early onset and rapid progression of dental disease. But before that agonizing pain comes to haunt you , there are 3 ways your teeth maybe telling you that something is wrong and you need to visit a dentist soon.      

1) BLEEDING FROM  GUMS 

Why it happens?

In most of the cases it is due to inflammation of the gums because of  improper oral hygiene, BUT it may also be a warning signal for:

  • Blood disorders 
  • Diabetes 
  • Vitamin C or K deficiency 
  • Liver disease 
  • Blood cancer     

How it shows?  

  • Bleeding gums during brushing 
  • Blood in spit 
  • blot on the tooth brush bristles 
  • blot on the pillow on waking up 

What happens if left untreated?  

    Slow or rapid progression of gum disease leading to gums recession. Teeth becoming loose or mobile can be called the silent killer as can lead to complete tooth loss with little or no signs. Bacteria of gum disease have the potential to infect heart tissue.

    • Due to cavities forming between teeth 
    • Due to receding gums 
    • Due to faulty tooth caps and filling

    • Food especially fibrous getting stuck regularly between or on teeth

    • Overzealous use of tooth picks

    • Cavities become larger and painful 
    • Gum swells up and becomes painful 
    • Discoloration of teeth

    3) SENSITIVITY OF TEETH  


    Why it happens? 

    • Breach in the structural integrity of tooth structure 
    • Breach can be due to loss of enamel, cavities, improper tooth brushing 

    How it shows?

    • Sharp painful reaction to hot, cold, sweet or sour foods /drinks 
    • Discoloration of teeth  

    What happens if left untreated? 

    • Increase in sensitivity leads to avoiding favorite foods 
    • Sensitivity will increase to constant pain requiring major treatments
