I'm not a dentist, but I can provide some general information about wisdom tooth extraction recovery.
On the second day after wisdom tooth extraction, some amount of swelling, discomfort, and limited jaw movement can be expected. It's normal to have a little extra gum flap or tissue around the extraction site as your body begins the healing process. This tissue will gradually reshape as you heal.
To help with your recovery:
Swelling: Swelling is common after extraction. You can apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the outside of your cheek in 20-minute intervals to help reduce swelling.
Pain: Over-the-counter pain medications, as recommended by your dentist, can help manage pain. Follow the prescribed dosage and instructions.
Limited Jaw Movement: Limited jaw movement might be due to the swelling and muscle soreness. Try to eat soft foods and avoid opening your mouth too wide.
Oral Hygiene: Gently rinse your mouth with warm saltwater after meals to keep the area clean. Avoid brushing directly over the extraction site for the first couple of days.
Diet: Stick to soft foods that don't require excessive chewing. Avoid hot, spicy, or hard foods for now.
Follow Instructions: Follow any specific post-operative instructions provided by your dentist.
If you notice any signs of infection (increasing pain, swelling, fever, pus), or if your discomfort worsens significantly, it's important to contact your dentist. Remember, it's always best to consult your dentist for personalized advice based on your situation.
