Severe pain on the thumb side of the wrist without major injury, especially worsening with movement and gripping, is most commonly due to De Quervain’s tenosynovitis (thumb tendon inflammation) or sometimes a ligament sprain or small occult fracture pain that feels like “twisting,” difficulty holding objects, and no relief with a simple bandage suggest tendon or soft-tissue irritation, not just muscle pain. A normal bandage often doesn’t help—this condition usually needs proper thumb spica splint immobilization, rest, and anti-inflammatory treatment. You should see an orthopedic doctor for examination and possibly an X-ray or ultrasound to rule out fracture or tendon injury. until then, avoid gripping/writing, use ice packs, and keep the wrist supported, as continued use can worsen the inflammation.
