Switch with ssri for anxiety disorder
Dear doctors, I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder. It's really effecting my life very bad. The anticipatory anxiety is the worst. Iam ready to take medications. But I heard that ssris cause switch to mania in some? If it happens will I end up in bipolar disorder? Kindly give your valuable suggestion, it will be of great help. Thank you.

I may help you... Ya it can cause switch in those who have bpad.. I usually add low dosage antipsychotic so tht switch wont occur so easily... And if only anxiety symptoms only anxiolytic can be used she is more safer

Hi SSRIs are safe. They are associated with manic switch only in patients with bipolar disorders/ prone for bipolar disorders. There are also non medical interventions. Please consult a Psychiatrist
