I have been playing a sport for a few months, however yesterday I felt breathlessness as soon as I started. It became better as the 90 mins passed. I didn't eat breakfast and had a protein ball and black coffee just before playing. After the session I was ok but yesterday and today I feel bloated and uneasy. I had a pineapple juice last night along with a light dinner.
Hello!!
Skipping breakfast and having only coffee and a protein ball may have contributed, while bloating and uneasiness could be related to acidity or indigestion. However, we should not assume these are the only causes.
At 40 years of age, new-onset breathlessness during exercise warrants prompt medical evaluation, including assessment of your heart and lungs. If you have breathlessness at rest, chest pain or pressure, sweating, dizziness, faintness, or worsening symptoms, please seek emergency care immediately.
Please let me know:
Did you experience any chest discomfort, palpitations, or dizziness?
Do you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a smoking history?
Are you still feeling breathless or experiencing unusual fatigue today?
Next Steps
I recommend a consultation to assess your symptoms and determine whether you need an ECG or other investigations before returning to sports.
Early evaluation can help identify the cause and ensure you resume physical activity safely.
Needs medical evaluation please book a consultation with me to assess the cause Get in person examination if breathlessness occurs at rest or with chest pain or severe symptoms.

-Breathlessness during exercise may result from inadequate pre-exercise nutrition, caffeine effects, dehydration, asthma or cardiovascular causes.
-Persistent bloating and uneasiness may be related to dietary factors, but should not automatically be attributed to pineapple juice or an empty stomach.
Next Steps
-Avoid strenuous sports until symptoms resolve and you are evaluated, especially if this is new-onset breathlessness at age 40.
-Consult a physician for examination, oxygen saturation, ECG and further tests as indicated.
Health Tips
-Eat a balanced meal or snack before exercise, hydrate adequately and avoid excessive caffeine.
-Resume exercise gradually only after symptoms have resolved and serious causes have been excluded.

Breathlessness during exercise can have several causes, including exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, dehydration, anaemia, or cardiac conditions. Since you have persistent bloating and uneasiness for two days, please undergo an in-person medical evaluation today, including vital signs, SpO₂, and ECG as clinically indicated. Avoid strenuous exercise until assessed.
Seek emergency medical care immediately if you experience breathlessness at rest or worsening difficulty breathing, chest pain or pressure (especially radiating to the arm, jaw, or back), fainting or near-fainting, cold sweats, blue lips, confusion, sudden palpitations with dizziness, or coughing up blood. Do not delay emergency assessment if these symptoms occur.
Hello,
Sudden breathlessness during exercise should not be ignored, particularly if this has never happened before.
Possible contributing factors include exercising without breakfast, dehydration, inadequate warm-up, caffeine intake, or exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (asthma-related airway narrowing).
However, heart-related or other respiratory causes must also be considered, even though your symptoms improved during the session.
The bloating and uneasiness may be associated with acidity, caffeine, or dietary factors, but these do not necessarily explain the breathlessness.
Next Steps
Avoid strenuous exercise until medically assessed. Arrange a prompt consultation with a general physician, ideally today. An examination, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and ECG are advisable. Further cardiac or pulmonary investigations may be necessary. Before future exercise, ensure adequate hydration and have a light, easily digestible meal 1â2 hours beforehand. Avoid excessive caffeine before sports, particularly if it triggers palpitations or gastric discomfort. For bloating, eat smaller meals and temporarily avoid carbonated drinks, acidic foods, and heavy meals.
Health Tips
Although your breathlessness improved with continued activity, this does not completely exclude an underlying cardiac or respiratory condition. Seek emergency medical attention if breathlessness returns at rest, or if you develop chest pain, fainting, severe dizziness, palpitations with weakness, or cold sweats. Once serious causes are excluded, a gradual return to exercise with appropriate nutrition, hydration, and warm-up is reasonable. Wishing you good health!
Breathlessness right at the start that eased as you warmed up usually points to playing on an empty stomach with caffeine in your system, not something serious. Skipping breakfast and taking black coffee beforehand can lower your blood sugar and raise your heart rate during exercise.
Next Steps
Eat a proper meal an hour or two before playing instead of just a protein ball and coffee, and sip water through the session. For the bloating, stick to lighter, familiar food the evening after a hard workout rather than juice.
Health Tips
See a general physician if the breathlessness returns, lasts longer, or comes with dizziness or a racing heartbeat at rest.
