I've been having anxiety since a month and so. And i have been having other problems like sleeplessness, crying, low mood and energy etc.
Possibly trauma
Do u think i should take an SSRI for this based on my symptoms? Without DSM assessment. I was prescribed with it.

Looks like depression. You need to be on antidepressants. But it's premature & not ethical to say so without seeing patients. Consult a Psychiatrist & continue medicine.

Dear patient,
Medicine is a core part of treatment in psychiatry and for your complaints, the group of drugs you were prescribed allegedly I.e SSRIs is appropriate and a common approach. However that's not the only option out there.
A "DSM assessment" is often not an apparent part of the interview and the quantification of criteria for diagnosis is often done by the clinician based on the naturalistic interview and interaction with the patient . Rest assured if you were given a diagnosis, it was based on your history and assessment /consultation /interview.
Watch for improvement and report any side effects to consultant.
If unsatisfied, consider a second opinion.
Next Steps
watch for improvement , follow consultants advice, report any side effects to treating doctor. consider second opinion.
Health Tips
avoid changing medicine dosages without medical supervision.
Hello
The symptoms you are describing warrant a detailed psychiatric evaluation. The medication prescribed sounds a rational choice for your described symptoms. The DSM diagnosis does not direct the treatment very strictly, the symptoms present with a lot of variety and combinations. It is advisable to trust the consulting Psychiatrist and stay open to any communication with him/ her regarding any doubt or speculation regarding the symptoms, treatment, etc. This will be beneficial for both of you for a smooth line of treatment.
Next Steps
Follow the advice of the psychiatrist and maintain good feedback
Health Tips
Do not change the dose/ stop/ start any new medication on your own
First of all I will advise you to trust the competency of your doctor. Diagnosis is considered on the basis of symptoms, duration severity, impairment in various aspects of the individual due to symptoms. You have symptoms that are impairing your life( personal, social academic or professional), you must continue medication.Gradually these medications will be tapered off & minimum effective dose of medication will be continued.DBR sleep hygiene also Should be followed with medication
Next Steps
continue medications
Health Tips
you will be improved, do not bother, it's common among all
Yes, SSRIs will be helpful in reducing your symptoms. A DSM assessment is a supplementary tool and not essential in making a diagnosis or starting treatment.
Hello madam
If you have consulted a Psychiatrist, you should take the prescribed medication
As they will have adequate knowledge about that
If any other have advised you, I would say not to take it and consult a Psychiatrist for further management
Next Steps
kindly consult online for further management and treatment
Thank you for sharing this. From what you've described - anxiety, sleeplessness, crying, low mood, and energy - it’s clear you're going through a difficult time. These symptoms could be linked to stress, trauma, or an underlying mood or anxiety disorder.
Regarding SSRIs:
While SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) can be effective for treating anxiety and mood symptoms, it’s important to ensure a proper clinical assessment is done before starting or continuing them. A DSM-based diagnosis helps in tailoring treatment more precisely, but more importantly, your treatment plan should be guided by a qualified mental health professional who can track your response, side effects, and any underlying causes.
Next Steps
a. Please consult a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist who can evaluate your symptoms in more detail — with or without the DSM.
b. You may also benefit from trauma-informed therapy, like CBT or EMDR, alongside or even before medications, depending on the severity.
c. Track your symptoms daily - mood, sleep, anxiety levels - to help with diagnosis and treatment planning.
Health Tips
Taking or continuing SSRIs without a clear diagnostic understanding or follow-up could lead to side effects or incomplete treatment. Don't hesitate to ask your prescribing doctor to explain your diagnosis or the rationale behind the SSRI.
You’ve taken a brave first step in reaching out - please continue to seek support. You don’t have to go through this alone.
Hi Ma’am.
It sounds like you’re experiencing some of the symptoms which fall under the anxiety spectrum. I would recommend you to consult a psychiatrist before taking any kind of medication on your own. Reason behind it is that each medicine is giving at a different dose for different symptoms. The psychiatrist will not only diagnose the symptoms according to ICD/DSM criterias, but will also evaluate the severity and extent of the symptoms along with the psychopathology behind it. The dose, duration and everything else in a prescription is decided according to that. So please do consult first.
Next Steps
Consult a psychiatrist before taking any kind of psychotropic medication.
