My sister complains of very sharp pain in her calf muscle. She got the pain out of nowhere and it was all of a sudden. We tried to relieve it using Iodex, Volini, Heat and cold therapy & massage but it did not work. Also she took Diclofenac Sodium tablet once a day for 2 days but there was no relief at all and the pain is still very strong. What can be done for sudden for this?
Thank you!

Hello. Cold n hot compression will help. Along with some stretches. If pain persists see a physiotherapist. TENS modality cld be helpful. Also get her B12 levels checked
Hi
Please check whether your sister has fone any sudden activities such as running or sports. This might be a reason or she might be having general nutritional deficiencies.
She can take hot water compressions over the calf area for 15 mins twice a day and then apply iodex or volini or massage with wwarm coconut oil over the calf after hot fomentation. Try this for a week.
Try some mild stretches for calf by taking a long towel and keeping it just below the toes and holding each ends with both hands each and then pull that leg towards face and fell the stretch over the calf and hold it for 10 seconds for 5 repetitions twice a day for a week.

Take care and stay safe ......
Hi,
A few details like the type of pain, area of pain, and how it behaves through the day and with or without activity would help diagnose better.
Have you checked the hydration levels of your sister? It's quite common in monsoon to sweat a lot due to the humidity and the low temperature doesn't make you feel thirsty.. this leads to dehydration... calf muscle cramps are very common in dehydration.
Any history of fall, twist, running, gym workouts, back pain or ankle pain? Any fever? Flu like symptoms? Myalgia (muscle aches) are common after viral flu. Kindly rule out any such possibility.

When is the onset of pain ,eg like while walking or any specific activity on which the pain comes??
Pain in both calf or single calf??
It might be due to muscle pull.. but I need to know above answers for specific diagnosis and treatment...
Has she had flight travel or prolonged bed rest? This then could be vascular....
If not it could sometimes be referred pain from the back.
