RCT and capping are two separate procedures which are done in tandem but have different reasons behind the purpose that they solve. RCT is done to remove the infection in and around the tooth and relieve the patient of the symptoms, and because root canal treatment is mostly required for teeth which are grossly damaged otherwise, capping is done to add strength to such hollow teeth so that they can withstand the forces of chewing efficiently. So these two procedures are interdependent but actually independent of each other. A good quality cap will definitely provide excellent strength to the tooth but failure of RCT is mainly because of Re infection and that is because of plaque accumulation which is not removed efficiently by the patient and that does not depend upon the quality or the type of cap put on the tooth.
