Hi, Thanks for reaching out!
Quetiapine (Quitipin) is known to increase blood sugar in some patients. Since your treating doctor is unavailable, please consult a psychiatrist or endocrinologist soon for tapering or switching options. Alternatives like aripiprazole or lurasidone may have a lower metabolic risk, but any change must be supervised. Meanwhile, monitor blood glucose, maintain a diabetic-friendly diet, and don’t stop medication abruptly.
Next Steps
Visit a nearby psychiatry OPD or teleconsultation platform urgently for dose reassessment.
Health Tips
Never adjust psychiatric medications on your own supervision is essential to avoid withdrawal or relapse.
First of all, if blood glucose levels are deranged, you should plan a visit with physician with investigations report (Hba1c, fasting, pp sugar, lipid profile).HbA1c report will make it clear whether deranged sugar due to Quetiapine or it's an independent comorbity, Quetiapine 50 mg is very low dose, sugar derangement on this dose is less likely.
Next Steps
you should plan a visit with physician with above reports
Health Tips
follow DBR, brisk walk, weight records, take more fibre rich diet
There are many alternatives available to quitipin.
however each drug carries it's own potential side effects and must be tailored to the patient. kindly consider a quick consult with a qualified psychiatrist for personalized advice on the same.

This is a known and important side effect of quetiapine, even at low doses, and needs to be managed.
Quetiapine can:
Impair insulin sensitivity
Increase appetite and weight gain
Lead to metabolic syndrome in some individuals, especially with longer use or predisposition (family history, PCOS, obesity)
Although less likely at lower doses but can cause even at 50 mg (often prescribed off-label for sleep or anxiety), as some people are metabolically sensitive.
Hi
Yes there are potential side effects of Quetiapine especially metabolic ,but these occur only after prolonged use
There are many alternatives to quetiapine ,which can be advised after taking a detailed history and accordingly deciding according to the indication
You can consult a Psychiatrist for the same
(I am available for online consultation on Practo)
Quetiapine over the long period of time increases the blood cholesterol and in the end leads to increased blood sugar. But these side effects not happens always. But it has to be tapered gradually under Psychiatrist supervision.
Next Steps
Please consult online for further treatment approach
Hello. It is better that you consult psychiatrist first as no one can tell an alternate anti psychotic without knowing all your symptoms and history in detail. Kindly consult before stopping or changing the medication on your own.
