External protein supplements like whey protein are not steroids. They help in building muscle if and when you have a good workout plan. If you stop taking those without any other food replacement, then you probably will have weight loss and hence muscle loss. But it is definitely possible to gain muscle without taking protein supplements if you have a proper diet and workout plan. Please contact for personalized diet plan that will help you attain your goals. -Dr. Lahari Surapaneni.
