Placenta formation is a continuous process. The moment you become pregnant, the ovum is surrounded by Chorion. And this Chorion subsequently becomes placenta.
Placenta starts forming as early as 4 weeks of pregnancy. It can be visible on ultrasound at around 10 weeks and is fully developed by 18-20 weeks of pregnancy.
