Pain in neck and shoulder(both sides)
I am 20 year old female. I had a sudden onset of pain in my neck and shoulder on both sides after working out(which I started recently) since the last 2 months. I consulted an orthopedic doctor but that did not buy me any relief. Finally got an mri of the entire spine. Everything is normal. Doctor suggested to get physiotherapy. Physiotherapist did neck adjustment The pain decreased slightly, but still exists. I don't feel the pain when I m sitting still or sleeping. But after bending for 5-10 minutes while reading , my neck gets stiff . What shall I do? I do hot fomentation and some exercises suggested by pt.

Sounds like a slight tear of the outer layer of the disc, easily missed out on routine MRI scan. It's called an annular tear. Do you have morning stiffness too? Or feeling of being stuck in a bent position? Rest, anti inflammatory medication and guided rehab will help you.. it takes about 3 weeks for this to settle . You can ideally start rehab after 7-10 days of active rest.
Next Steps
consult for further assistance.. take a break from your work out... bed rest and immobilization is not required.
Health Tips
immobilzation is of limited use if there are no neurological symptoms or dizziness.
