Omega 3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA)
I am 16 year old male, Student of a competitive exam, and I m physically active, I play sports and go to gym regularly. My diet lacks seafood due to unavailability of it because I don't stay in coastal region and vegetarian sources contain only ALA type of omega-3. So, is consumption of omega 3 fish oil capsules safe for adolescents? Is dosage of 1250 mg fish oil which contains 450 mg EPA and 300 mg DHA safe to consume daily to fullfill requirements? Yes or no? Please advice

Please consult a physician for adequate dosage ,also Checking for any deficiency if certain blood levels can help to  recommend it as supplement. However 750 mg of actual EPA & DHA comes under safe limit. Note : Some person can have side effects like burps, fishy odour or upset stomach or bloating, taking it along with meal is considered to prevent it. Hope this helps. If any query kindly reach out for consult .

Since EPA and DHA requirements for adolescents are different from adults, supplementation should be based on dietary intake and individual needs. ALA sources such as flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts and their oils are good vegetarian options, although conversion of ALA to EPA/DHA is limited. If seafood is not consumed, an algae-based DHA/EPA supplement can also be considered as a vegetarian alternative. The mentioned capsule provides 750 mg of EPA + DHA (450 mg EPA + 300 mg DHA), which is a relatively substantial supplemental dose for a 16-year-old and should not be taken routinely without professional guidance. Also, the “1250 mg fish oil” refers to the total oil, not the actual omega-3 content.
