Hello, I’m really sorry you’re going through this. OCD and sleep paralysis are both treatable conditions, and what you are experiencing- especially during academic stress- is unfortunately common but not permanent. Sleep paralysis often worsens with anxiety, irregular sleep, fear of episodes, and exam pressure, all of which can coexist with OCD. This does not mean your future or exams are ruined- with timely treatment, students often recover well and regain confidence.
Next Steps
• Consult a psychiatrist as soon as possible for proper evaluation • OCD usually responds well to medication (SSRIs) and CBT with Exposure- Response Prevention (ERP) • Sleep paralysis improves with sleep regulation, anxiety control, and sometimes short-term medication • Maintain a fixed sleep- wake schedule, even during exam preparation • If possible, inform your parents/guardians and seek support- you should not handle this alone
Health Tips
Avoid sleep deprivation, late-night studying, caffeine at night, and excessive screen use before bed, as these increase sleep paralysis episodes. Do not self-medicate or rely on internet remedies. With proper treatment started now, you can still prepare meaningfully for your exams.
