Here are some hints to overcome suicidal tendencies. Don’t suppress your feelings and emotions. Open your heart to a person with whom you are free. Don’t sit and brood over problem sitting in a corner of a house, but keep yourself engaged in some useful work. Try to avoid solitude as far as possible. If you don’t find anyone to whom you can unburden your heart, pray to God, open your heart to Him. Be positive-sufferings are boons in disguise. It’s one of the ways to workout effect of past actions. Learn a lesson from sufferings. Have firm conviction that God alone is real and everything else is unreal. Direct your mind towards God. Pray only for strength to bear sufferings and not to escape from them. Listening to devotional music, reading of inspiring and strengthening literature, hearing speeches of ‘Great personalities’ will keep you away from negative thoughts. Once in a while visit holy places. Holy places are like power houses of spirituality which will help you to charge battery of your mind. Always seek company of holy people and their advice if you are in a depressed state of mind. Be practical, careful and watchful while dealing with others. Don’t be foolish and get cheated by selfish people. Many times thoughtless actions cause all kinds of sufferings. God is the Creator of entire universe. We all belong to Him. Have firm faith in and devotion for Him. He is ever-ready to protect us, since He has created us. He hears even footfall of an ant. He doesn’t desert them who call upon Him sincerely. Hence, call upon Him not only sincerely, but steadfastly as well, in happiness and in misery. Always think that you aren’t the body, but you’re in body. It is nature of body to suffer, decay and die, but soul within is free from all these changes, eternally blissful. Fix your mind on self within body. By constant practice try to overcome body-consciousness and abide in the Atman, the abode of infinite happiness.
