Need career advice
I am a 25-year-old male and a first-generation doctor. My father will retire in the next 3–4 years, and after that, I will have to take care of my family. I am the eldest in my family. Last year, I was getting MD Medicine in a peripheral semi-government medical college. However, many students from that college advised me not to take it because I might end up being a subpar MD Medicine doctor due to the limited clinical exposure there. Apparently, their hospital refers almost all MI and stroke cases to higher centres. So, I decided to take a drop. However, after checking the NEET-PG 2026 recalls, I don’t think I will get a government or dnb seat this year either. So, I am planning to try for semi-government colleges again this year. Considering that I will have to take care of my family after my father’s retirement, which branch would be better for me in the long term — MD Medicine or Radiology

Both are very much needed. Radiology provides more money provided you work on a high salary or start your own clinic with good quality work and right connections.

Go for any college. Get the subject of your aptitude. Later on, your practice will depend not upon your exposure to patients but your genuine interest to learn, your behaviour with patients and your availability to patients'needs.

If you are planning for superspecialization in the future, I would suggest MD General Medicine. But if you are looking for a terminal branch Radiology. Ultimately, choose based on your interest and the quality of training in the particular college.

Your concern is valid, but do not choose a branch only from fear or family pressure. Compare Medicine, Radiology and other options by your interest, aptitude, training quality and realistic work-life goals. A focused career discussion with a senior physician can help you decide clearly. You may book a Practo consult or meet me at Synergy Multispeciality Hospital, Miraj.
Next Steps
Write down your priorities, discuss finances and training exposure with your family, and take a deliberate decision rather than rushing.

For a Balanced Family life Radiology would be a better option whereas MD/DNB Medicine is high working environment, a never ending exploration to new diseases, patterns, treatments which could be a stressful situation, as ur father retirement is 3-4 yrs, Our PG duration is 3yrs which you straight away get into good hospital into job parallel to family responsibilities would be starting.
Next Steps
Predict your ranking and seat positions in any of the medical Colleges in India if you aren't obsessed over a single branch of Medicine
Health Tips
My special advice is that there's no end to any clinical branch in our Healthcare field, and in a way or other we are a bridge between new treatment modalities to proper management of a patient. To not have the stress in daily life we are a bigger Bridge in Healthcare between Pharma and Patients.
