Muscle spasm is a body's protective mechanism to indicate there is pathology underneath. If it would have been solely muscle pull,it would have relieved with hot packs and muscle relaxants. According to me ,it's just a facet lock. Facet joint is a small joint joining two vertebras in spine and mild facet lock will not be evident on Xray. It's important you undergo thorough physical examination at a good Physiotherapy clinic trained in manual therapy for unlocking the same. You can visit my clinic in Kuber Hospital,Pitampura, for better diagnosis. Rest n regards
