Prolonged screen exposure, sedentary lifestyle, and possible B12 or vitamin D deficiency contribute to fatigue and brain fog. Hello,
Your symptoms of fatigue, poor concentration, brain fog, and difficulty maintaining your train of thought may be related to several factors.
Given your previous history of vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiencies, reassessing these levels is reasonable.
Other possible contributors include:
- Prolonged screen exposure and sedentary lifestyle, which may contribute to fatigue and poor sleep.
- Inadequate sleep, chronic stress, or burnout, particularly with demanding work schedules.
- Nutritional deficiencies, anaemia, or thyroid dysfunction, which can affect energy and concentration.
However, brain fog is a symptom rather than a diagnosis, and its underlying cause should be identified before starting supplements.
Next Steps
Consult a general physician for a clinical assessment, especially since your concentration and speech fluency have been affected. Recommended initial investigations may include CBC, vitamin B12, 25-OH vitamin D, TSH, and blood glucose/HbA1c, depending on your examination and history. If B12 is borderline, methylmalonic acid (MMA) testing may help identify functional deficiency. Aim for 7â9 hours of sleep and establish consistent sleeping and waking times. Take short movement breaks every 30â60 minutes and aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity weekly. If investigations are normal but symptoms persist, consider evaluation for sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, or occupational burnout.
Health Tips
ollow the 20-20-20 rule during prolonged screen use: every 20 minutes, look at something approximately 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Maintain adequate hydration, balanced meals, and regular physical activity. Avoid taking high-dose vitamin supplements without confirming whether you have a deficiency. Seek medical attention if you develop sudden speech difficulty, confusion, weakness, or other new neurological symptoms. My recommendation: Start with a physician consultation and basic blood investigations, particularly vitamin B12, vitamin D, CBC, and thyroid function. Addressing prolonged sedentary work and sleep quality is equally important. With appropriate evaluation and lifestyle changes, these symptoms may improve considerably. Wishing you good health!
Low B12 or vitamin D can absolutely cause exactly this, brain fog, poor focus, and low energy, especially since both were low before and haven't been rechecked in six years. A long sedentary stretch adds to the same picture, since movement itself affects energy and concentration. This is very likely treatable once the actual levels are known.
Next Steps
Get a blood B12 and vitamin D test done now, along with a thyroid check, since thyroid issues cause similar fatigue and are worth ruling out at the same time.
Health Tips
If levels come back low again, please see your physician to treat it properly this time, and recheck in a few months rather than letting it lapse again.
