This pain is mostly from your patellofemoral joint! Which the joint between your knee cap and the bone behind it. Leg extension tend to produce this pain if there is imbalance amongst your thigh muscle, mostly with weak muscles in the front of your thigh and tight muscles on the outside of your thigh! This created maltracking of your knee cap which rubs on to the bone beneath. You need to temporarily stop leg extension, work on correcting this imbalance and resume gradually. Take Care👍

You should consult a physiotherapist in person or online for assessment and exercises. To reduce pain you can take electro therapy modalities. Exercises should be continued for 3-4 months twice a day for best results.

With a history of injury and now arthritic pain best exercise plan should start after a Physio assessment. Knee extensions and leg curls if required may be prescribed within the right range and with modifications as per your case specific need. Other exercises can be added if necessary. Generalised exercise plans are less efficient most of the times.
