Kids - age for Teeth alignment braces
My 11 year old son's front teeth has started protruding and his lips don't close while sleeping. One dentist stated that correction can be done after 13 while another states it can be done now. What is the right age to do? He still has a few baby tooth yet to fall.

The appropriate age for orthodontic treatment, such as correcting protruding front teeth, can vary depending on the specific circumstances and the individual child's dental development. Early orthodontic treatment: In some cases, early intervention may be recommended, typically around the age of 7 to 9. This early phase of orthodontic treatment, known as interceptive or Phase 1 treatment, aims to address specific dental issues while the child still has a mix of baby and permanent teeth. It can help guide the proper growth and alignment of the teeth and jaws. Waiting for permanent teeth: In other cases, it may be more appropriate to wait until most of the permanent teeth have erupted, typically around the age of 12 or 13. At this stage, the dentist or orthodontist can assess the full set of permanent teeth and create a comprehensive treatment plan. Individualized assessment: The timing of orthodontic treatment can depend on various factors, including the severity of the protrusion, the presence of any underlying dental issues, the child's overall dental development, and the professional judgment of the dentist or orthodontist. It is important to consult with a qualified orthodontist or dentist who specializes in orthodontics for a thorough evaluation of your son's dental condition. They will be able to assess his specific situation, consider his growth and development, and provide personalized advice regarding the appropriate timing and treatment options. During the evaluation, the orthodontist or dentist will take into account your son's age, the alignment of his teeth, the presence of any baby teeth, and other factors to determine the best course of action. They will also consider the potential impact on his overall facial appearance, lip closure, and functional aspects while sleeping. By seeking professional guidance, you can ensure that your son receives the appropriate orthodontic treatment at the most suitable time to achieve the desired results and promote his dental health and well-being.

Normally we start after 12/13 years. But there are some instances when early intervention is required. So do visit a local pedodontist/orthodontist for physical evaluation and treatment(as required).

The ideal age for the orthodontic check up is 10 years .. if there is any correction required it can be advised. The treatment may start at a later age but regular check ups will help to correct and skeletal changes if required.
Next Steps

Hello ,   However it is difficult to say anything without  clinical examination but yes there are three phase to get correct to irregular erupted teeth - First is preventive , prevention is always better than cure , this phase use to prevent the possibilities of irregular teeth. Second phase is interceptive - in which  problems to be manage caused by early or late shadding of teeth. Eg. space maintainers for early shading & extractions for retained one . Third phase is corrective - in this phase  permanent teeth replace milk teeth and treatment is all about correction  .

as your son has incompetent lips and front teeth are protruding he might have some kind of deleterious habit like mouth breathing , tongue thrusting or thumb sucking. if it is present then it needs to be corrected first and that too as early as possible. after habit cessation we can plan for corrective braces tretment.
