“Generalized itching, especially worse at night, can have many causes including allergy, skin conditions, liver issues, kidney issues or medication/supplement reactions. Ashwagandha is usually well tolerated, but in some individuals it can contribute to allergic reactions or itching. Since your symptoms are affecting sleep and involve the whole body, please stop self-medication and get properly evaluated. Please consult me so I can assess the cause and guide the right treatment.”

Namastey Generalized itching involving the body, scalp, and face that becomes more intense at night can occur due to a variety of reasons. Common causes include dry skin, allergic reactions, sensitivity to foods or medications, environmental factors, skin conditions, stress-related aggravation, and other underlying health issues. While Ashwagandha is generally well tolerated by many individuals, any substance—including herbal preparations—can potentially cause sensitivity or allergic reactions in some people. If the itching started after beginning the Ashwagandha syrup or became noticeably worse following its use, it would be reasonable to consider the possibility of an individual reaction. However, it is not possible to conclude that Ashwagandha is the cause based solely on the information provided, especially if you have been taking it for a long time without previous issues.
Next Steps
Observe whether there is any visible rash, redness, bumps, swelling, or skin changes accompanying the itching. Also note when the symptoms began and whether they correlate with starting or increasing the dose of Ashwagandha syrup. Avoid very hot baths, harsh soaps, and excessive scratching, as these can worsen itching and irritate the skin further. If the itching is severe enough to disturb sleep or continues to persist, a detailed evaluation is advisable to identify the underlying cause rather than assuming it is due to a single factor. For personalized assessment, better guidance, and a holistic Ayurvedic treatment approach for persistent itching and skin health concerns, you may connect with us at 9 3 1 5 6 6 1 5 6 5.
Health Tips
Keep your skin well moisturized, stay adequately hydrated, and wear loose, breathable cotton clothing. Maintain a regular sleep schedule and try to avoid excessive heat exposure, as warmth can sometimes intensify itching. Pay attention to any new foods, herbal products, cosmetics, detergents, or environmental exposures that may coincide with the onset of symptoms. Early identification of triggers and maintaining healthy skin care habits can significantly help in managing persistent itching and improving sleep quality. Thank you

Ashwagandharishta is generally considered a safe Ayurvedic medicine when used appropriately. However, in your case, itching all over the body, especially when it worsens at night, is a symptom that should not be ignored. Rather than focusing on whether a medicine has side effects or not, it is important to understand why this itching is happening. There can be many underlying causes, and each requires a different approach. Without taking a detailed history and assessing your symptoms properly, starting or continuing any medicine may not give the desired results.
Next Steps
My suggestion is not to take medicines randomly simply because they are considered safe. The right treatment depends on identifying the root cause. A proper consultation and detailed evaluation will help determine what is actually triggering your symptoms and ensure that you receive the most suitable treatment. Since the itching is widespread and worse at night, I would recommend getting it assessed rather than delaying it. Early evaluation often makes treatment much easier and more effective.

Yes, Ashwagandha can cause itching, typically appears within hours or a few days of starting the supplement and can involve the face and body. When the liver is stressed, bile salts can build up in the bloodstream and deposit under the skin, causing intense, persistent itching. This usually develops after 2 to 12 weeks of consistent use. But it has added symptoms too like yellow eyes, urine and tiredness.High doses are more likely to trigger both allergic reactions and liver irritation. As you have not shared history regarding duration for how long have you been taking this incomplete history is not enough to find root cause. If you contact me online then I can treat and explain you more efficiently. If you were taking ashwagandha for sleep or anxiety or any other related issues I would recommend to contact so that I can help you out and advise proper line of treatment not just one syrup.
Next Steps
Stop taking the syrup immediately. If the itching is purely an allergy, it should subside within a few days of stopping. Before starting any new herbal medicine, wait until your current itching has completely stopped. This allows your body to reset and ensures any new reaction can be accurately tracked.
Health Tips
Instead of taking ashwagandha, you can go for alternatives like guduchi, brahmi, jatamansi.
