In a diabetic diet, it's important to choose whole grains over refined grains. Whole grains like oats, quinoa, brown rice, and millets provide more fiber and nutrients, which can help regulate blood sugar levels. Jowar is a good option.

The choice of grains in a diabetes diet can indeed be confusing, as different sources recommend different things. The best choice can vary based on individual health, preferences, and how the grain is prepared. Considering your husband's HbA1c level and his approach to managing diabetes with diet and exercise, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional. We offer personalised advice tailored to his specific situation. A consultation would help create a diet plan that aligns with his health goals.
Next Steps
The next steps for the patient would be: 1. **Consult a Healthcare Professional:** Schedule an appointment with a dietitian who specializes in diabetes management. They can provide personalized dietary recommendations based on your husband's current health status and HbA1c levels. 2. **Keep a Food Diary:** Start recording what your husband eats. This will help the healthcare professional understand his current eating habits and make specific, tailored recommendations. 3. **Continue Exercise:** Maintain the current exercise routine, as physical activity is crucial in managing diabetes.
Health Tips
**Monitor Blood Sugar** Regularly: Keeping track of blood sugar levels can help understand how different foods affect your husband's diabetes. **Balance is Key:**:Focus on a balanced diet that includes a variety of nutrients. It's not just about the type of grain but also about the overall meal composition. **Portion Control**: Pay attention to portion sizes. Even healthy grains can lead to blood sugar spikes if consumed in large quantities. **Avoid Quick Fixes**: Be wary of any diet or product that promises a quick solution to managing diabetes. **Beware of Fad Diets**: Not all popular diets are suitable for managing diabetes. It's essential to get personalized advice.

If you look at it all cereals have a similar calorie output, but few cereals specially the hand pounded, semi and unpolished have varying GI & micro nutrients density which is absent in most of the polished cereals and pulses so portion control is the ultimate when it comes to carbohydrates

Millets are better as they have low glycemic index, means they do not raise blood sugar levels quickly, as compared to rice and wheat flours
