Can I feed him suji, oats, jaggery and ragi or not. At present I'm giving him rice dal fruits and few vegetables. I'm concerned about his weight . Is it ok higher side ? Thank you for your responses.

Hello Maam, well like any other mammal, your baby is also capable of eating all fresh foods after 6 months of exclusive mothers milk, well-cooked in form of soft diet as he is just beginning his teething phase. Just ensure, you do not try too many varieties in the same week, start one food at a time, testing his palate and testing your little one's digestive abilities. Try giving him home-made cottage cheese/paneer, lightly thinning it in the whey water, oats need to be powdered but start with smaller quantity, suji halwa/payasam is ok too, ragi in milk if he isn't lactose intolerant. So my suggestion is go slow, & keep a close watch if he is ok with his excretion, schedule, sleep & hunger as this needs very close monitoring & observation as soon as the child shows discomfort towards a certain food , try to reduce in quantity or stop for a while.

Depending on the birth weight it can be said whether he is overweight or not.Have you breastfed the child or not? Many such questions will have to be answered for proper diet advise to be given. I would suggest not to start with suji right now.

As a dietitian, I would say that at 7 months old, weighing around 9 kgs is on the higher side, but it's essential to assess your baby's growth trajectory over time rather than focusing solely on weight at a single point. It's also crucial to consider factors like length, head circumference, and overall development. Regarding your baby's diet, introducing foods like suji, oats, jaggery, and ragi can provide additional nutrients and variety to their diet. However, it's essential to ensure that these foods are introduced gradually and that they are appropriate for your baby's age and developmental stage. Always monitor for any signs of allergic reactions and consult with your pediatrician for personalized guidance. Continuing to offer a variety of foods, including rice, dal, fruits, and vegetables, is important for providing a balanced and nutritious diet for your baby. Remember to avoid adding salt, sugar, or honey to your baby's food, as their kidneys are still developing and may not be able to process these ingredients effectively.
