Folic acid tablets are taken for several important reasons: Preventing Birth Defects 1. *Neural Tube Defects (NTDs)*: Folic acid helps prevent NTDs, such as spina bifida and anencephaly, in unborn babies. 2. *Birth Defect Prevention*: Folic acid also reduces the risk of other birth defects, like heart defects and cleft palate. Additional Benefits 1. *Anemia Prevention*: Folic acid helps prevent anemia, a condition characterized by low red blood cell count. 2. *Pregnancy Support*: Folic acid supports overall health during pregnancy, ensuring the mother's body can meet the demands of fetal development. 3. *Red Blood Cell Production*: Folic acid is essential for producing red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body. 4. *Nervous System Health*: Folic acid plays a role in maintaining a healthy nervous system.
