I was feeling pain on my liver side so i went for ultrasound, it showed grade 1-2 fatty liver changes. So i went for fibroscan, it says CAP 174 and KPA 3.3
Doctor who did fibroscan said no fatty liver.
Whose report should I consider?
I do feel i have gas and mild constipation running because I'm taking ferrous ascorbate supplement for iron. Can this be the cause of pain randomly?
Why there is a difference in ultrasound and fibroscan?

Fibroscan is the gold standard â more precise than ultrasound. CAP 174 means no significant fat in the liver (threshold is >248), and KPA 3.3 means no liver stiffness or fibrosis. Your liver is healthy. Ultrasound is subjective and often flags mild changes that aren't clinically significant. The pain and gas are most likely the iron supplement causing GI irritation.
Next Steps
Take iron supplement with food, not empty stomach. Try ferrous bisglycinate if irritation persists. Get LFT and lipid profile done for baseline. Consult me on Practo for report review.
Fibroscan is more sensitive.
Please share detailed medical history.
Get liver function tests, lipid profile, cbc, done and share results.
Then I can help you further.
Fibroscan is a more sensitive investigation...Pain is not because of fatty liver it's because of acid reflux or something else....Kindly consult me will help you...
Pain is probably not because of fatty liver.
It might be due to gastritis or constipation. Iron supplements do cause these issues. Increase water intake to 2-3 lt per day, include dietary fiber, fruit and vegetables in the diet and do regular exercise.
Next Steps
If you are still concerned u can consult after getting following test done
- LFT
- CBC
- Serum ferritin
Health Tips
you should consult gastroenterologist if pain becomes severe or persistent, or develop jaundice, nausea and vomiting
Based on the information you have shared, your FibroScan findings (CAP 174 dB/m and Liver Stiffness 3.3 kPa) are reassuring. A CAP value of 174 is below the usual threshold for hepatic steatosis, and a stiffness of 3.3 kPa indicates no significant fibrosis. FibroScan is generally more sensitive and objective than conventional ultrasound for quantifying liver fat and fibrosis.
Mild (Grade 1) fatty liver on ultrasound can sometimes be overcalled, as ultrasound is operator-dependent and may be influenced by body habitus, bowel gas, and technical factors. Therefore, in the presence of a normal FibroScan, significant fatty liver is unlikely.
Next Steps
Can you send me your LFT report . I would also recommend reviewing your liver function tests (LFTs) and metabolic profile (blood sugar, lipid profile, BMI) if not already done. Maintain adequate hydration, increase dietary fiber, exercise regularly, and continue iron supplementation only as advised by your treating physician. If the pain is persistent, severe, associated with fever, vomiting, jaundice, or weight loss, you can consult me on practo app .
Health Tips
Be hydrated , increase fibre diet, exercise , and avoid oily and spicy food
