In elderly people, for sleep disturbance, a thorough sleep evaluation must be done by a psychiatrist, and medications that normalize sleep patterns must be given rather than sleeping pills like benzodiazepines, which will be harmful in the long run.

Before starting sleeping pills, you should follow sleep hygiene. You can get sleep hygiene by searching at my facebook page. If sleep doesn't improve even after following sleep hygiene, then there can be some psychological illness. I am a professor with 22 years of experience in treating patients. You can consult me online through my Google page or Facebook page. Dr Suneet upadhyaya from Jaipur
