Long-standing dry dandruff with increasing hair fall is very common and usually happens due to scalp dryness, fungal overgrowth, frequent shampoo changes, stress, or nutritional deficiency. Shaving the head or washing very frequently does not cure dandruff and can actually increase dryness and hair fall.
Why it is lasting so long:
• Dry or sensitive scalp with disturbed oil balance
• Stress, which worsens dandruff and hair fall
• Possible low iron, protein, or vitamin levels
• Over-washing or harsh shampoos drying the scalp further
Next Steps
What you should do now:
• Avoid washing daily; keep it 2–3 times per week
• Use lukewarm water, not hot
• Do not scratch or scrape the scalp while cleaning
• Eat foods rich in iron, protein, nuts, seeds, and green vegetables
• Manage stress, as it directly affects scalp health
Hair fall increases temporarily when dandruff is severe, but it usually improves once the scalp condition is controlled.
