Hi, If the pain is unbearable, please visit a dentist as soon as possible. Do you feel pain on drinking hot? Does the pain increase on lying down? Possibly, you have pain because of tooth decay that has reached nerve or due to wisdom molar.

If you may provide a little detail about the location of gum swelling, then I may reply more accurately. It could be good lodgement in the gums that is causing the pain which may be due to caries or erupting wisdom tooth.
Next Steps
Please provide a little more detail about swelling location. A pic will help the best.
Health Tips
Do lots of warm saline rinses. That will take care of infection part.
