It can be due to wisdom tooth infection if you feel gums are swollen. Other possibility is of a deep cavity which has caused infection and hence the pain.
Next Steps
consult a dentist immediately

Hi visit a dentist as soon as possible. There may be a cavity in the teeth. This needs an immediate attention as if the infection increased then there are chances of getting pain and swelling which will lead to further complication.
Next Steps
visit a dentist and get an xray done
Health Tips
Till that time do warm saline rinses( put some salt in warm water and do rinsing). Do it for as many times as possible.

Hi, If the pain is unbearable, please visit a dentist as soon as possible. Do you feel pain on drinking hot? Does the pain increase on lying down? Possibly, you have pain because of tooth decay that has reached nerve or due to wisdom molar.
Next Steps
Immediately visit a dentist and also get X-ray done

If you may provide a little detail about the location of gum swelling, then I may reply more accurately. It could be good lodgement in the gums that is causing the pain which may be due to caries or erupting wisdom tooth.
Next Steps
Please provide a little more detail about swelling location. A pic will help the best.
Health Tips
Do lots of warm saline rinses. That will take care of infection part.
