Clarify if I need a rabies vaccine
A stray dog was near my gate. On the cement floor, I saw some blood and possibly saliva from the dog. After about 10–12 minutes, I poured water on that spot. Some of that water splashed back onto my foot, about 7–10 cm away from my nail-removed wound. After another 10 minutes, I washed my leg with pump water, and some water entered the wound. There was no bite, no scratch from the dog, and no direct contact of fresh saliva with my wound. Only the splash from the floor water touched near it. In this situation, do I need to take rabies post-exposure vaccine, or is it considered safe?

The virus does not survive outside the body, like in sunlight, heat, or dry conditions. Rabies virus becomes dead within minutes once saliva is dried or diluted (e.g., with water).

Hello, Rabies virus becomes inactive quickly once outside the body and does not survive long on dry surfaces or in water. In your situation, there was no bite, no direct contact with fresh saliva, and the splash occurred after 10–12 minutes, making the risk of rabies extremely low to negligible. Such indirect exposure from floor water is not considered a risk. You do not need post-exposure vaccination for this scenario. For reassurance and further discussion, you may connect with me on Practo
