I have been running for last 10 years and lead an active life. but for the past 6 months there have been a few episodes where my right leg calf muscle gets cramped and makes it difficult to walk or climb stairs. I can feel knots in my calves. It gets better after a few days rest. This time I got a cramp on the other leg also. What could be the reason for this? Which doctor should I consult or should I see a physiotherapist? Thanks

Calf pain and cramping during running, especially with a feeling of âknots,â is most commonly due to muscle fatigue, tightness, or overuse strain, particularly after many years of activity. other contributing factors can include dehydration, electrolyte imbalance (low magnesium/potassium), improper footwear, or inadequate warm-up and stretching. since it improves with rest and now involves both legs, it is likely muscle-related rather than a serious vascular or nerve problem. you should first consult an orthopedic or sports medicine doctor to rule out tendon or circulation issues, and then follow a guided rehab/strengthening program. regular hydration, calf stretching, gradual training, and proper shoes usually help prevent recurrence.
It could be due to Various reasons
At your age it better to look into Doppler or Ankle brachial pressure index
If both are fine then we can go for tablets
Muscle relaxants with Supplements will do good
Vitamin D deficiency can also cause it
