Braces for teeth gap
Hi doctors , I have a gap in the front teeth of upper arch. Got braces (2 teeth from bottom arch were removed in order to adjust - as said by my dentist) in Jan 2021 with every month of changing wires and bands etc. Removed braces in Dec 2021 exactly after 11 months. And a small cut of skin is done in between the same teeth in Dec 2021 and gave retainers. I have used them religiously for next 15 months. Few days back for 4 whole day's I didn't kept my retainers to see if my gap is closed. But not. Gap is as usual like the start. I asked the dentist who treated me and he said it's common and keep retainers for 4 more months. I'm tired.! I don't think even after 4 months my gap will reduce. Any inputs please

Sir I understand your situation. But this will need a consultation to know if the gap is really there. Or is it something minor. Make sure you wear the retainer. And not miss it.

Hi Please do not worry, your gaps can be fully closed by a removable retainer by tightening it. We can stop the gap from ever opening up again in the future by fixing a tiny wire on the back side of the teeth.
Next Steps
Visit an orthodontist for further opinion.
Health Tips
Generally we get gaps between our teeth if there's an imbalance between lip and tongue forces. You can try searching for tongue thrusting excercises on youtube for proper tongue positioning.

If the space is less, then it can be closed with Hawley's retainer with regular tightening. Followed by permanent retainer at the back of upper teeth.

Hello Retainers are very important especially in case of Spacing between the upper front two teeth. It is a common condition that requires PERMANENT RETENTION. Space has to be closed completely before removing the braces and then usually removable and fixed retainers are given. Removable retainers are prescribed for 1 to 1 and half years and a small fixed retainer is attached to the back of your teeth that stays permanently. According to what you have described that the spaces have not closed at all, and you have diligently worn your retainers, retainers cannot close the space now as they help only in retaining the tooth in that position and not space closure. The small cut of the tissue that you described is a part of the treatment, nothing to worry If you can attach photo, a clear opinion can be provided.
Next Steps
visit your orthodontist and talk about your concern
Health Tips
Retention is permanent for this condition. be patient. Fixed retainers are the choice.

Hi, The braces treatment is done to make the smile better, in this process the teeth positions are changed. Braces has two important phases 1) Actually treatment 2) Retainers As we have moved the teeth to a new position so, in order to retain them in that new position one has to wear retainers, so, retainers wearing duration (in months) can be vary from patients to patients and treatment to treatment you had!! In your case, I will suggest to follow the doctor’s advice and lately once your spaces are closed ask doctor to put fixed wire retainers also. Thank you Dr.Achla verma MDS( orthodontics and Dento-facial orthopaedics)
Next Steps
Once’s spaces are closed with removable retainer ask doctor for fixed wire retainer too!!
