Ankle and leg twist pain
Hello doctor , past 2 months while walking down the stairs i missed one step and fell badly with my right leg and the whole body weight was on that and it got twisted . I took medications after that but it healed that for the time being . Now the pain is coming whenever i walk on the back of ankle & feet and around the knee and it keeps on moving sometimes at the calf muscles or thigh muscles. Pain is majorly coming below the knee while walking and i feel strength problem in my leg plus stiffness. Got physiotherapy done fr a week but not much of relaxation. So its becoming difficult to exert full pressure. What to do now ? Please help!

Still pain means injury is not healed properaly. Use crap bandage or ankle crap for stability during walk. It also maintain immobilization of ankle. Ice applicatio 2-3 times in day for 10 min will reduce your pain. Do exercise as per physio guideline.

Hello there....well ankle injuries are common and the most common among them is ankle sprain.... the severity of sprain will have a direct bearing on its healing time...most of the sprains which have partial tear of ligament without any bony fracture will heal within weeks of rest, ice and OTC medication...however a more severe form of injury will take time to heal...also if there is a bony avulsion fracture or a complete tear of ligament due to sprain, then pain can subside but stability will be a major issue.... i hope you had done X ray/mri of the part...for the time being avoid bearing full weight on the affected ankle and wear a ankle hawk brace for stability... if you have minimal stability issues its fine and with routine physio exercise and rest it will heal...however if you feel greater instability then you need to show it to a specialist consultant to take a second opinion regarding it. Regards & take care.

Hi hope that you must have consulted and taken X ray and there was no bony injury. This could be moderate to severe ankle sprain along with pull in the calf muscles. this kind of injury takes 3 months to heal, so dont worry continue physitherapy.

Your symptoms are suggestive of ligament strain/tear of the knee and Achilles strain. To confirm this diagnosis you will require an MRI. I would advise you to visit the orthopedician so that you can be examined and undergo investigations such as X-Ray, MRI, etc to find the underlying causes and have it treated accordingly. These following steps may help: - Apply a crepe bandage over the ankle and knee for immobilization and support - Try not to apply pressure over the right leg - Apply ice over the area for 15 minutes 4 times a day - Keep the leg raised while sitting and while sleeping keep 2 pillows underneath the leg to keep it raised. - Apply a hot water bag to the area where it's hurting to relax the muscles and apply the topical painkiller over the area and lightly massage. If the problem persists or worsens visit the orthopedician at the earliest.

You are describing pain and discomfort in a wide area. The first step is obviously to arrive at a diagnosis of what has happened. That is possible by thorough clinical examination of bony and softtissue components of the involved area. It is unwise to assume anything. Xrays may be required. You need to see an Orthopaedic surgeon for this. Once the extent of the injury is understood, proper steps can be taken to facilitate healing including rest/ exercise/ activity modification/ medicines. Do not blindly subject your limb to non specific physiotherapy/exercises, as all treatments are not same or always beneficial.
