ACL injury
Hi I had suffered from ACL knee injury in November last year. Post that was on rest, used support stick and did physiotherapy sessions. In lockdown, mostly have walked inside home. Recently, on doing staircase, I find some pain or discomfort in the knee area. What can be done to reduce it or improve my knee condition?

ACL ligaments job is to allow knee bending and straightening movement with ease but limit excess of rotation n give knee joint a rotational stability. 1. If it's a partial tear - U should work on strengthening muscles around Ur hip and knee joint. 2. If it's a full tear and u r not a sports person - U should do strengthening exercises as above and avoid excess of sudden rotation movement in Ur lower limb Bez Ur knee joint lacks stability in end range. 3. If it's a full tear n u r a sports person - Do consider ACL reconstruction surgery as a option to support your knee joint and help u return to Ur sports Ur knee pain while ascending stairs tells us that Ur quads and VMO muscle strength is poor. Plz do Ur exercises regularly taught by Ur physio.

Hi, there could be few explanation for pain during stair climbing after knee ligament injury, particularly if swelling and redness is not left as might have been there during first episodes of pain or injury. 1. The ligament are still has sprain. Ligaments take time to heal, even more than a bone does. I have seen ligament injury those are left with residual pain for months. 2. The muscles are week and still not supporting the joint as much as they should. A progressive strengthening program that is designed for 12 weeks has excellent results with ACL injury. You can follow up with Curativo Clinic's online consultation program thrice a week to progressively strengthen your injured.
Next Steps
keep applying ice, use crepe during activity, start well designed low impact close kinematic chain exercises.
Health Tips
avoid long standing and multiple flights of stair for a week or so. Happy healing! 🙂

Your knee pain could be due to unusual load or strain to the knee joint. I have few questions like How many steps did you climb? Was it a gradual progression of exercise or sudden change? How long do you have this pain?
Next Steps
You should give Cryotherapy or Ice therapy to the knee joint for every 3 hours for 5 days. You can use Volini gel or spray to the site provided you are not allergic. You should do hip strengthening and knee strengthening exercises with proper guidance. For ACL injury there are different types of progressive exercises which you need to follow.
Health Tips
If the pain persists or aggrevates you need to consult a Physician or Physiotherapist or Orthopaedist for further evaluation and treatment.

Quad sets, straight-leg raises, and heel slides are common exercises used after an ACL injury. As symptoms decrease and you are able to bear weight, side-lying leg lifts, glute sets, bridges, mini-squats, heel raises, and prone hamstring curls might be added.
Next Steps
Rest your knee when possible. But try to flex your calf muscles often to help blood circulate in your legs.
Health Tips
Don't applying ice if you feel stiffness in your knee joint. You can do hot water fomentations, knee press exercise (knee Isometric) and quadriceps strengthening exercises.
